Faith 1270 welcomes Casting Crowns back to Sioux Falls on Friday, April 20th, 2012! It’s the Come to the Well Tour -with Matthew West, Royal Tailor, Lindsay McCaul and Casting Crowns.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, January 14th at 10 am. They’ll be available via this link. and by phone at 800-731-4500, or contact the Sioux Falls Arena Box Office. Gold circle tickets will go for $83.50. Reserved tickets willbe available for $35.00 and $23.50.

Holiday Hands and Feet

This holiday season, help Faith 1270 deliver the gift of kindness!

We’ll be focusing on the many chances between now and Christmas to make a difference with our Hands and Feet. Each week, we’ll focus on a new opportunity. See below for the full list & at the bottom of the page you can easily share your volunteering story. We’d really love to hear from you!

Here’s where and how you can serve—November & December 2011 (all locations are in Sioux Falls)

● Operation Christmas Child: The annual collection of shoeboxes filled with gifts takes place at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, 49^th and Bahnson, November 14-21. Volunteers are needed to accept and count boxes, place them in shipping containers, and load them into trucks. Call the church at 371-3800 to volunteer for shifts.

● Goodwill Industries Thanksgiving Dinner: Help is needed on Saturday, November 19^th to serve dinner to up to 1,100 guests. Contact Betty at 731-1932 to volunteer. Dinner takes place at South Dakota Achieve (4100 Western Ave.).

● Active Generations Deck The Halls: Groups can adopt a room at Active Generations to decorate for the holidays. Come in November 21 through November 23 in the afternoon and evening. AG members will vote on the best room. Contact: Lisa Howard, 336-6722.

● Parade of Lights: Volunteers are needed to clean up after the Parade of Lights on November 25 from 8:15pm to 10:00pm. The clean up group will work along the route (14^th to 5^th Street on Phillips Ave.) to throw away cups or other litter left behind. Contact Maureen Ohm at 338-4009.

● Salvation Army Toy Town: Distribute toys. Applicants will be interviewed. Call 338-6649 for details and dates, and interview times. The Salvation Army, 800 N. Cliff Ave., Sioux Falls.

● Children’s Inn Gift Wrap Center: Located in the Macy’s Court of The Empire Mall November 25 through December 24 during mall hours. Volunteers may serve as many two hour shifts as they like. Contact Staci for details, at 338-0116 or Staci.kropuenske@chssd.org.

● Goodwill Shoe and Mitten Party: Volunteers are needed to help kids with trying on shoes and handing out mittens on Saturday, December 10^th. Volunteers are needed between 9:30am and 2pm. The Good will store is located at 4701 E. 41^st St., Sioux Falls. To help, call Elthea at 731-1932. 125 volunteers are needed.

● Family Visitation Center: Join others to help at the Holiday Event for families. The agency needs volunteers to help with face painting, games, crafts, etc. on December 10^th from 11-2. To help, contact Jennifer at 275-2071or Jennifer.Vollmuth@fvcenter.org

● Toys for Tots: Toy distribution to area children and their families takes place December 10^th through December 18^th. Guy Penrod Concert

GUNN PRODUCTIONS and Tim Mikkels presents an encore performance of Gospel Music favorite Guy Penrod at the Orpheum Theater in Sioux Falls on September 26.

Guy Penrod is considered by many to be the voice and face of the Gaither Vocal Band. After accepting the position with the Gaither Vocal Band in 1994, Penrod became internationally known for his powerful vocals and broad singing range. He has performed in Gaither Homecoming concerts all over the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Europe, Australia, and Africa. Seating is limited. Tickets are available at all TicketMaster locations, online, Sioux Falls Arena or by calling 1-800-745-3000 starting August 1st for the general public.

Don’t miss Guy Penrod’s return to Sioux Falls, SD September 26th at the Orpheum Theater.

DAKOTAS ARE ENROLLED IN A FEDERAL PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FOOD
ASSISTANCE ,
THE DAILY REPUBLIC NEWSPAPER REPORTS THAT DATA FROM THE URBAN
INSTITUTE SHOWS ENROLLMENT IN THE SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM INCREASED BY 58 PERCENT IN SOUTH DAKOTA BETWEEN 2007 AND
2010. NORTH DAKOTA HAD AN INCREASE OF 33 PERCENT DURING THAT
PERIOD.
NATIONALLY, THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE USING FOOD STAMPS INCREASED 69
PERCENT BETWEEN FROM 2007 TO 2010.
CONGRESS ADOPTED THE FEDERAL FOOD STAMP ACT IN 1964 TO HELP
NEEDY PEOPLE BUY GROCERIES. THE PROGRAM COST APPROXIMATELY $60
BILLION IN FISCAL YEAR 2010.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ A STATE ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD THIS WEEK IS
CONSIDERING A TEXAS COMPANY’S REQUEST TO EXTEND THE CONSTRUCTION
START DEADLINE FOR A $10 BILLION OIL REFINERY PLANNED FOR
SOUTHEASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA.
THE BOARD OF MINERALS AND ENVIRONMENT APPROVED AN AIR QUALITY
PERMIT FOR HYPERION RESOURCES IN AUGUST 2009, BUT IT REQUIRED
CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN BY FEB. 20. THE COMPANY NOW WANTS 18 MONTHS
TO START CONSTRUCTION FROM THE DATE A FINAL PERMIT IS ISSUED.
THE BOARD IS HOLDING A CONTESTED CASE HEARING IN PIERRE TO HEAR
TESTIMONY FROM SUPPORTERS AND OPPONENTS. IT COULD MAKE ITS DECISION
OR EXTEND THE HEARING INTO NEXT MONTH.
THE REFINERY NORTH OF ELK POINT WOULD PROCESS 400,000 BARRELS OF
CANADIAN TAR SANDS OIL EACH DAY AND BE THE FIRST NEW U.S. OIL
REFINERY BUILT SINCE 1976.

SD Abortion Law Suspended

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ SOUTH DAKOTA ATTORNEY GENERAL MARTY JACKLEY SAYS THE STATE WILL NOT APPEAL A FEDERAL JUDGE’S RULING THAT PREVENTED A SOUTH DAKOTA ABORTION LAW FROM TAKING EFFECT.
JACKLEY SAYS THE STATE WILL INSTEAD PROCEED IN LITIGATING THE ULTIMATE CASE MERITS.
A FEDERAL JUDGE ON JUNE 30 GRANTED PLANNED PARENTHOOD’S PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION TO BLOCK LEGISLATION REQUIRING WOMEN SEEKING ABORTIONS TO FACE A THREE-DAY WAITING PERIOD AND UNDERGO COUNSELING AT PREGNANCY HELP CENTERS THAT DISCOURAGE ABORTION.
THE LAW WAS PASSED BY THE 2011 LEGISLATURE AND SIGNED BY REPUBLICAN GOV. DENNIS DAUGAARD. IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN EFFECT JULY 1 BUT IS NOW SUSPENDED WHILE THE LAWSUIT PROCEEDS.
JACKLEY SAYS THE STATE ALSO IS SUPPORTING TWO PREGNANCY HEALTH CENTERS’ REQUESTS TO INTERVENE IN THE SUIT.

DOORS FOR PUBLIC TOURS STARTING MONDAY EVENING.
KELO-TV SAYS CREWS HAVE BEEN WORKING TO RESTORE THE HISTORIC
STRUCTURE IN SIOUX FALLS FOR TWO YEARS.
NOW, THE PUBLIC CAN VIEW THE CHANGES FIRSTHAND.
THE CHANGES INCLUDE NEW CHANDELIERS AND MARBLE ALONG WITH
RESTORED ARTWORK ON THE CEILINGS AND WALLS.
