FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) – The Army has dedicated a memorial garden at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in honor of the 306 chaplains and chaplain assistants who gave their lives in service to God and country. A wall of remembrance includes the names of the 294 chaplains and 12 chaplain assistants who perished in conflicts from the Revolutionary War to Iraq and Afghanistan. The $200,000 memorial is located next to the Army Chaplain Center at Fort Jackson, which is the Army’s largest training post. The memorial features a life-size bronze statue of an Army chaplain comforting a grieving soldier.
