NEW YORK (AP) _ Josh Hamilton has been voted the American League’s Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, but he’s giving God the glory.

The Texas Rangers outfielder says he remembers what his life was like “without a relationship with Christ,” compared to what it has become “with a relationship with Christ.”

Hamilton overcame eight trips to rehab for drug and alcohol addiction to help the Rangers reach their first World Series. He led the majors in batting average (.359) and slugging percentage

(.633). He had 32 homers and 100 runs batted in despite missing time with two broken ribs.

Hamilton told reporters that without God, “none of this would be possible.”
