DETROIT (AP) _ Federal prosecutors say nine suspects tied to a Christian militia that was preparing for the Antichrist have been charged with conspiring to kill police officers, then kill scores more by attacking a funeral using homemade bombs.

The Michigan-based group, called Hutaree, planned to use the attack on police as a catalyst for a larger uprising against the government, according to court papers.

Members of the group were charged following FBI raids over the weekend in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade says agents moved quickly because the group was planning a violent mission sometime in April.

The group’s Web site says Hutaree means “Christian warrior” and declares that Jesus wanted them to be ready to defend themselves with weapons.
