He was a successful Hollywood musician, singing on television, in movies, and on commercials. Paul Sandberg gave it all up for Jesus when he came to sing in the Haven of Rest Quartet and he never looked back.
Paul Sandberg’s life made an incredible impact as he served as a vital member of the HAVEN ministries team until his death at age 74 on January 26, 2010.
“Paul had just as singular an effect on this ministry as any speaker,” said Charles Morris, Haven’s Speaker and President.
As a tenor singing with the Haven Quartet, he was also a well-known soloist and releasing albums like the bestselling “The Hiding Place.” In later years, countless supporters of Haven knew him as the friend who called them on the phone, touching their lives with his gentle, humble spirit.
“To know Paul was to love him. He made time for everyone, and there are literally thousands of Haven listeners who have heard him tell his corny Swedish jokes…Paul was a true Christian gentleman, loved by us all,” said Jim Grams, Haven Vice President for Ministry.
Raised in Minnesota, often helping his dad in the family printing business, Paul eventually moved west to attend and graduate from Westmont College in Santa Barbara. His singing career quickly took off as his natural talent opened the door to opportunities in the media, but he left that world to sing with Haven. When he could no longer sing, he moved to the development side of the ministry and, until a week before his death, he was still calling ministry partners from his hospital bed, doing what he loved best — building relationships and serving Jesus.
A memorial service is pending. Paul is survived by his wife, Jan, and four sons.
